At the Cambridgeshire count once the returning officer had declared the results of the election, LightningMinion was called to give his victory speech:
“It is truly an honour for my home constituency to have put their trust in me to represent them at Westminster for a 3rd time. I would like to first of all thank the electorate of Cambridgeshire for putting their trust in me to represent them in the Commons and to fight for Cambridgeshire to remain on track.
My victory would not have been possible without dedicated party volunteers who worked hard every day of the election campaign knocking on doors, handing out leaflets, and spreading the Labour Party’s message. Your hard work has been rewarded with Labour holding onto the seat of Cambridgeshire and I would like to thank you all for your stellar work over the week.
Finally, I would like to thank the brilliant leadership of the Labour Party who worked hard day and night at spreading Labour’s message all over the country and delivering what is the Labour Party’s best electoral result in some time, and saving the Labour Party from what seemed an inevitable slow death only a few months ago. The hard work of Labour’s leadership has made Labour a winning party again, which I am eternally grateful for.
In the campaign I promised to fight for an upgraded transport system for Cambridgeshire, for protecting the county’s unique nature from the effects of the climate crisis and humanity, for a fairer education system, and more. Once Parliament reopens I intend to swear in for the 3rd time as the member for Cambridgeshire where I will fight for what I promised on the campaign trail and for implementing my campaign promises.
Finally, I would like to address one aspect of the election result in this constituency. Those of you who love statistical analysis of election results may have noticed that this election I won only 92363 votes or 22.851% of all votes, which for me is the lowest number of votes and lowest vote share I have ever won in a Cambridgeshire election. However, as your member of Parliament I won’t seek to represent only the 22.851% who voted for me: as an elected parliamentary representative I believe it is my duty to represent all my constituents within Parliament. Over the coming term even if you didn’t vote for me, if you have any concerns you want me to raise within the House of Commons, please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will do my best to raise your issue in the Commons.
Actually there is one last final thing I would like to say: I would like to thank the volunteers who counted the votes, the returning officer and the Italian-American woman who input numbers into a spreadsheet for your hard work this night counting votes and running the election! Without your our parliamentary democracy would not be able to function.
