At a meeting of the Cambridgeshire branch of the Progressive Workers Party, incumbent Cambridgeshire MP LightningMinion was re-selected to contest Cambridgeshire again in GEXVI. Following his re-selection, he gave the following brief speech at the party meeting:

“It has been an honour to have represented Cambridgeshire at Westminster and I would like to thank you all for putting your trust in me to campaign to represent you again in Parliament.

During the past term we have had a chance to introduce and pass some exciting bits of legislation. One bill I am especially excited by is the Railways Bill written together by the government and the PWP to nationalise our railways. The private sector has failed to run a railway service which is affordable, punctual and reliable. While the Railways Bill has not yet passed into law, we are hoping that we will be able to pass it in the next term of parliament to ensure that our railways are the best they can be.

Recently Parliament also passed a budget written together by the government, the PWP and the Lib Dems which has made many investments into the fight against the climate crisis, our schools and hospitals, and our transport infrastructure, including a commitment to build East West Rail and link together Cambridge with St Neots, Bedford, Milton Keynes and Oxford.

If Cambridgeshire and other constituencies choose to put their trust in the PWP, I am hoping that we will be able to again introduce progressive policies, including a Green New Deal to tackle the climate crisis, investment in our public transport infrastructure, a liberal immigration system and more.
