The budget was released last week and well it doesnât make for easy reading, the government claims it is for the workers but it is far from that, severely underfunding the East-West rail project by ÂŁ4 billion, increasing corporation tax to levels that will make our economy much less competitive as well as indirectly taxing workers whom the government claim to protect, it also seems the government has also been getting their numbers mixed up as my good friend and colleague /u/Skullduggery12 has pointed out because it seems that the deficit has doubled to ÂŁ100 billion. However, I will focus on one of the main talking points which is the considerable cut of up to ÂŁ18 billion to the defence budget.
This all goes back to the ODD (Opposition Debate Day) and I will quote that the house called on the government âTo scrap planned cuts to defence expenditure and to maintain funding levels for the Ministry of Defence as laid out in the Finance Bill 2021 as a minimum.â The previous budget being the Phoenix Budget. It is in black and white, the facts are there that it is projected that the government will cut the defence budget by ÂŁ18 billion. Whatâs more shocking is that the Liberal Democrats were co-sponsors of that motion, going even further the defence person for the Liberal Democrats /u/scubaguy194 was nowhere to be seen in the budget debate, whilst i wonât make any speculation regarding them but the members party seems to have gone back on its word and along with the government, have disrespected the will of the parliament. We have seen the Prime Minister /u/KarlYonedaStan trying to defend the cuts by slandering the Conservative Party claiming that the party is âuntrustworthyâ and that we have gone back on the motion, but in reality it isthe government that has, the prime minister has even claimed that procurements sum up the cut but as /u/Cody5200 has said that simply is not the case. Whilst I'm not surprised with the scaremongering, lies and spreading disinformation it really sums up the rose government's term, only to serve their own agenda and have no care for the people, the government has turned its back on our armed troops, there was no mention of investments into cyber security capabilities from the government which is also mentioned in the GCR006, thus meaning opening the UK to foreign threats, nothing mentioned regarding the RAF, the government does not seem to care about our great nations defence capabilities, that's the reality and that is the fact.
