“Beloved people of the United Kingdom,

The last few months I’ve had the pleasure to serve in Government as Home Secretary once again, a position I held with the greatest pride. The Home Department is one of the most prestigious departments to serve in my opinion and you can really make a difference in so many lives.

The last few weeks I’ve been rethinking my position within the current Government and the events of the last few days have made it clear to me that I’m not the person to lead the Home Department the way I envision it and therefore I’ve made the decision to resign as Home Secretary and HCLG Secretary.

The Liberal Democrats have always been a place where I felt at home and right, but I know that I need a change of scenery and that by becoming an independent I can serve the people of Wales better than before. I have decided to join The Independent Group, with my great friends u/SpectacularSalad, u/antier and u/Greejatus.

I’m very happy that the Welsh Liberal Democrats gave me the opportunity to stay as a member of the devolved party and therefore I can continue the work I started when I built the devolved party back up from where it was.”
