Dear Prime Minister,

Congratulations on your accession to yours, the most lauded of political offices.

You carry on your shoulders a great burden, as leader of one of the nation’s most venerable and respected political parties, and of a surprisingly resilient minority government in a most difficult Parliament.

I would like to welcome you to your position, and wish you a long, and fruitful political honeymoon.

As you may be aware, I have recently founded the latest addition to our often-discordant body politic, the Independent Group. While you yourself are clearly committed to your party, I hope we share a common belief in the values exposed by myself and my grouping.

I’m sure you would agree that our political discourse is often too vitriolic, and I hope that you will lead by example in creating a positive environment where free discussion may flourish!

It is with that in mind that I was so heartened to see claims of discussions between the Libertarian Party and the Government as to a Supply Agreement. I believe that we should always reach across the isle, and that politics can make strange bedfellows. I sincerely hope that a deal can be done, so an example can be shown that modern political parties have far more in common than that which divides them.

And it is on the subject of deals that I reflect on our departure from the European Union. I hope you will make good use of the grace period granted to us by the extension of the transition period, and be able to achieve a consensus deal with the European Union, that reflects the fact that while we have left the European Union, we have not left Europe.

I wish you every success, and I shall certainly look for any opportunity to assist you in the difficult tasks that lie ahead of you.
