The number of Britons that are illegally downloading video games is increasing, according to new custom research from YouGov, commissioned by Vantage Interactive.
YouGov’s Video Game Report reveals that one in seven Britons (14%) admit to having downloaded video games illegally this year, up from 8% five years ago.
This number looks set to increase. 83% of those that illegally downloaded video games expect to still be doing so in five years, and 22% of those who did not illegally download video games have considered doing so. Added to this, 36% say that using unverified sources to access video games is becoming easier.
Of those who illegally download video games, over half (51%) say that they find it frustrating when video games are released exclusively on one platform, and 44% say that rising prices are a significant factor for them.
Note from Speaker: I intend for this specific issue polling slot to be used for a mixture of one off polls like this one which may lead to short term consequences, as well as ongoing polls on bigger issues such as Scottish Independence, for which polling may develop over a much longer time.
