Yesterday my friend, the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, mailed me with the invitation to become the new Shadow Minister for Culture and Sports, which I gladly accepted. The North of Wales is a place full of heritage that should receive the protection that it deserves and the attention that it deserves and this Government isn’t delivering on this at all.

The new Government in Wales have a Minister for Culture and Sport that is apparently just going to be busy with the possibility of hosting sporting events in 2026 and 2030. Their Programme for Government doesn’t mention the Welsh language once, it doesn’t give us any policies to protect heritage or the Welsh culture. This shows why the people in every single region of Wales trusted the Conservatives over the rest of the parties.

In my time as Culture Minister, we have achieved a lot, we made sure that we have more courses for people to learn Welsh, outside of schools. We created legislation that will enable NHS staff to learn Welsh, so they are able to assist people in Welsh if the patients prefer. We made provisions to protect Welsh theatre, in an attempt to ensure that future generations can enjoy the Welsh theatre even if it is in English.

We’re not seeing anything from this Government at all on culture and that’s something that should worry every single person in Wales. They should voice their concerns, as many of my constituents already have done. We must fight for our culture and we must fight against this Government that is acting irresponsibly when it comes to the Welsh culture.

I call upon every person in Wales that wants to fight for their culture to write to your MS or to me to voice your disapproval of this nonsense. The Conservatives will protect your culture and we will fight for you.
