The Conservative Review #1
The Conservatives have been gaining in the polls since a year ago and we almost doubled in the polls, and we are in Government for the first time in a long time. This is why we believe it’s important that we explain our reasonings and our train of thoughts.
Small Donations and Fundraising Bill
This bill was the first piece of Conservative legislation this week, once more a bill by our Leader, the Deputy Prime Minister, Sephronar. The bill wants to streamline the donations to small and local charities, it increases the threshold of the digital donations a charity can receive from £5,000 to £10,000. It also wants to reduce the bureaucratic process around claiming Gift Aid and other procedures, making things easier for these charities. It is an important step to help the organisations within our civil society to make sure that their operations are improved.
The debate on the bill was quite slow, getting mostly support from other Conservatives, with only getting one reply from a member of the Pirate Party GB and that’s it. We can only safely assume that this means that the rest agree with our stance on the bill and make sure it receives Royal Assent as soon as we can.
Special Housebuilding (Registration) Bill
The second piece of Conservative legislation was a bill that wants to establish registers for people or associations wanting to acquire a piece of land. The bill also requires local authorities to consider these registers when they are going to exercise their planning obligations. During the debate on this bill, just like the other one, the most comments came from Conservative politicians, with the only other comment coming from the Liberal Democrats. The bill is an important step to get out of the housing crisis, just like the other bills coming from our Leader on housing issues.
FAYE Questions
This week also saw the second instalment of the Questions to the Secretary of State for Family Affairs, Youth and Equalities, FPSlover1. He answered most of the questions put to him during the session, with only missing one question which he had answered elsewhere. The Question session ranged from questions on the three different parts of his portfolio, to specifics about crimes towards LGBT people and disabled people.
Getting the First Minister
The Scottish Conservatives started the term on nothing, no representation in the Scottish Parliament and no politicians really active on the main stage of Scottish politics. However, within the term we gained 35 seats and are thus the third party in the Scottish Parliament, but more importantly we delivered the First Minister of Scotland.
The term in Scotland started with a Government between Scottish Labour and the Scottish Liberal Democrats that went from one disaster to the next. At first they needed two votes to elect a First Minister, due to an administrative error from Scottish Labour, then it was followed up by several Cabinet Secretaries missing MQs and an absence from debating and legislation from both Government parties. The HRLP and the SLDs merged into us, thus gaining 35 seats and in a complete surprise after another two rounds of First Minister elections, Scottish Conservative Muffin5136 became the second First Minister of the term. We are proud to be able to serve Scotland once more and will do everything to ensure that we make Scotland better than it was.
