The Scottish Labour Party negotiated 2 deals for forming a government: one with the Scottish National Party, and one with the Scottish Conservative Party. Both deals were put to a vote of party members, and the party voted to reject both deals and instead enter opposition. Scottish Labour MSPs will be supporting me, the party’s leader, in the First Minister vote.

While we shall not be forming a government with them this time, I would like to thank the leaders of the SNP and the Scottish Tories for negotiating with us in good faith. I believe that there are multiple areas where Scottish Labour agrees with the SNP, and multiple areas where Scottish Labour agrees with the Scottish Tories, and I look forward to cooperating with them on such areas in the remainder of this parliamentary term.
