Senedd Announcement
Post Body

Yes the time has finally come for attention to turn towards Wales as the final piece of the legislative devolution puzzle is slotted into place. There are still a few things that will need to be done before everything is up and running - but read this post and you’ll know exactly where we stand.

Llywydd

Applications are now open to be the inaugural Llywydd (or Presiding Officer) and all you have to do is slide into my DMs for a little chat. Hopefully i’ll have decided on a candidate by the end of the week so that the preparatory work is completed in good time for the opening. The main duties will be:

  • Bringing together a nice master spreadsheet

  • Welcoming everyone to /r/MSenedd (not ready yet), with stuff like CSS probably needing completed

  • Being a general bill poster/vote counter once everything is up and running.

Devolution Issues

People want to know what level of devolution we are using, so we are using the Wales Act 2017 (2017 c. 4) no amendments to the devolved settlement in real life after that point are in effect - although /r/MHoC may (within reason of course) alter the devolved settlement in the future.

#WAI

I’m not anticipating any change of rules from the main devolved elections for this Welsh Election, so a post limit of 5 ( 5 visits) per person and a manifesto limit of 4,000 words (with direct translations in Welsh the only thing excepted).

I propose a timetable such as this;

  • December 13th (22:00) - Candidate lists modmailed to /r/MHoC

  • December 14th (22:00) - Manifestos modmailed to /r/MHoC

  • December 15th - Leaders’ debate posted

  • December 16th (07:00) - Campaigning opens at /r/MHoCCampaigning using #WAI [Constituency]

  • December 19th (22:00) - Campaigning closes

  • December 20th - Election Day

  • December 23rd - Results Night

  • January 3rd - Coalition Negotiation Period begins

  • January 10th - First Minister nominations open

If people are unhappy with this just say and i’ll change it.
