Good afternoon.
Over the past few months I have been working on a soft-rewrite of the Standing Orders of the House of Lords. These are an invaluable tool to any member of the House of Lords, and they needed to be clearer to avoid confusion.
Here is the link to the Standing Orders:
Along with the soft rewrite, I have also reformed a few specific parts of the Standing Orders, here’s what’s different:
Achievement Peerages:
There is now clarification on what honours grant a Duchy, and a reform on the population limits.
- Achievement peerages are now no longer subjected to the population limit of 50,000 people. The new maximum limit is 500,000. This flexibility is intended to reward active players.
- The rank of Duchy has now been formalised as requiring a KCT, GCT, or a PGCT.
- As before, titles are still subject to the approval of the Lord Speaker.
Reserving a Title:
The specific section on reserving a title has been rewritten to make it clearer.
- A person entitled to a Peerage (Achievement Peers) may reserve a title they have not yet used whilst sitting in the House of Commons.
- If a different person wishes to use this title and sit in the House of Lords they are given priority.
- This does not affect titles that a Peer has in the past used in the House of Lords, only to titles reserved whilst outside of the House.
Nominated Peerages:
I have completely reformed the way Nominated Peerages work, to avoid confusion and make it less about the whims of the Lord Speaker.
- A Prime Minister now must be in office for a month before nominating people to the House of Lords. This was standard practice, but is now written down properly.
- Initially a Prime Minister may nominate three peers, with an additional peerage per month in office for a total of eight maximum.
Any questions please direct them either on this thread, in #qs-for-lords-speaker, or to my DMs on Discord (@elraymondo).
Thanks.
