Dawlish Sea Wall Bill, 2018

A bill to reinforce the Sea Wall along the coastal trainline from Dawlish Warren to Teignmouth

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section 1 - Definitions

• Sea Defences - Hard blocks of ballast used to defend the coast from erosion from the sea

• Dawlish sea wall - the section of sea defences from Dawlish Warren Beach to the Teignmouth Parish Council Border

Section 2 - Renewal of defences

• To replace the existing Sea Wall with a new system of Defences, measuring 10m x 2m x 2m along the whole sea wall

• To replace netting and mesh on the cliffs overlooking the wall, to prevent landslips

• To install iron fencing 2m high along the cliff face next to the train line

Section 3 - Review

• To commission a review of the defences to take place every 2 years, to inspect for further issues with the train line or sea defences

• To commission a review into the feasibility of a Dawlish Avoiding Line

Section 4 - Costing

• To allocate £35 million to the cost of the sea wall replacement

• To allocate £100 000 per review

Section 5 - Commencement, Extent and Short Title

• This Act shall apply to the whole of the United Kingdom

• This act shall come into force 3 months after Royal Assent

• This act shall be known as the Dawlish Sea Wall Act, 2018
