Royal Society Motion

A MOTION TO make provisions for the creation of a Royal Society to promote science.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

This House recognises that:

• The UK is renowned for its scientific research and there is a need for an organisation to promote British science.

• The British public deserves to be educated in new developments within scientific research.

• Science and its benefits need to be promoted.

• There is a need for scientific policy advice.

• International and global science cooperation must be promoted.

• Distinguished service to the cause of science should be rewarded.

This House wishes:

• A Royal Charter be issued to establish “The Royal Society”, which will achieve the above aims.
