Motion to Disapprove the Greater Manchester Rail Plan

This House Recognises:

(1) On the 15th October 2022, the Secretary of State for Transport delivered a statement detailing their new plan for rail and metro lines in Greater Manchester.

(2) This plan is set to cost £2.1 billion in total, with no explanation of where this funding is coming from.

(3) This plan is not the best for Greater Manchester.

This House Therefore Urges that:

(1) The Government abandon their current rail plan for Greater Manchester and consult local groups before delivering a revised plan.

This Government plans to go ahead with a rail plan in Greater Manchester that does not have the explicit consent of this House. I call on the House to tell the Government their true feelings on the matter. If this motion passes then the Government should support the will of the House and abandon this plan, if it fails, then the Government has attained a mandate for this plan.
