Immediate changes to the House of Commons
Post Body

As you all are probably aware there has been some serious issues adjusting to the new reading structure, it has dramatically increased the workload on the Commons Speakership causing alot of votes, bills and motions to fall through the cracks as they tried to keep up and it also has proved to be overly complicated.

As a result we have decided to make several changes to both help reduce the workload on the Commons Speakership and to streamline the system to be simpler and less cumbersome.

So with immediate effect we are implementing the following changes:

1. Firstly we are changing the structure of readings

  • BXXX - 2nd reading

    • This reading lasts for 3 days after which any amendments that are submitted are voted upon by the amendments committee for 3 days.
    • This reading is for general debate on the bill as well as the submission of amendments. (Submitted amendments will also be posted to the thread)
  • BXXX - 3rd reading

    • This reading lasts for 3 days after which the final bill is voted upon by the entire commons for 5 days.
    • This reading is for debate on the final text of the bill.

If no amendments are submitted during the 2nd reading or if no amendments are passed by the amendments committee then the bill will skip the 3rd reading and head straight to its final vote in the commons which will last as normal for 5 days.

P.S The 1st reading will remain unchanged from how it currently operates i.e. The 1st reading is just the bill being scheduled on the spreadsheet.

2. We are making a change to how Results will be posted

  • The Results threads will now be posted on Sundays where the results for all the votes posted that week will be given in one combined post.

3. We are also making changes to the scheduling

  • Per day only one bill is to be scheduled which can be either a 2nd or 3rd reading.

  • Per day only one of either a Ministers Questions, a Motion or a Results thread will be scheduled.

We believe that these changes are both necessary and will help hugely with the flow of legislation through the Commons.

P.P.S Should also mention that Motions will now be read in the Commons for 3 days and will then be voted upon by the Commons for 3 days.
