Order, order!
Hong Kong Service Personel Passport Motion
This House Recognises:
That the contribution to Britain of the former armed forces of Hong Kong between 1857 and 1997 was significant and should be recognised.
That these men, women and their ancestors served Britain and Hong Kong faithfully throughout numerous wars and conflicts, in theatres such as France, Burma, Korea, Malaya and Singapore.
That not more than 500 servicemen and women were given a UK passport in 1997 under the then passport selection scheme.
That despite the successes of the passport selection scheme, the remainder of the Military Service Corps and some 100 Royal Naval servicemen and women were not offered the chance to obtain a British passport.
This House therefore urges:
- That those remaining servicemen and women of the Hong Kong Military Service Corps and the Hong Kong Royal Naval Service who were not offered a UK passport following the handover of Hong Kong to China should now be freely offered one.
This bill was submitted by /u/IFx_98 on behalf of the Conservative Party. The reading will end on the 13th.
