Misuse of Response Teams Bill

A bill to formally put into law, punishment for ‘swatting’ to ensure public safety and prevent the misuse of potentially vital emergency response resources.

BE IT ENACTED by The Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Commons in this present Parliament assembled, in accordance with the provisions of the Parliament Acts 1911 and 1949, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Section I: Definitions

A) ‘Swatting’ is the act of deceiving an emergency service (via such means as decieving an emergency service operator) into dispatching an armed response team, based on the false report of an ongoing critical incident. (e.g Hostage Situation, Terrorism Related)

Section II: Crime

A) To call upon or coerce the dispatch of an armed response team under false pretenses and/or without due reason is liable to criminal prosecution.

Section III: Punishment

A) To engage in the act of ‘swatting’ will result in substantial sentencing, including all as follows;

• A minimum of five (5) years imprisonment

• A minimum fine of £1000

• Community service upon release of no less than 100 hours

Section IV: Short Title, Extent and Commencement

A) This Act-

• may be cited as the ‘Misuse of her Majesty's response teams bill 2016’

• shall extend to England and Wales

• shall come into force immediately upon passing
