I am newer player only at level 6 monsters. HR 42 chapter 13-4 (I think that’s how you put it)

Using the bone gunlance which is 7 2-5. I am looking for ideas on armor at this low level to use materials for. I have 348 def but I feel very glass cannon at this stage. 1-2 hits koed ( or is that normal? )

I have two pieces that have the artillery buff but that’s just because I can. Really my armor is just all over the place. Not sure if I should hold on to materials or at this level just get the best I can as it doesn’t matter much?? I see a lot of end game stuff but not much around
