Thoughts on a regular third?

Have a third that gets along well with us. We are new to this though. Wife thinks she’d prefer to stick with the same guy rather than go through the trouble of meeting / vetting new every time. Only once a month or less frequency. We play together. Being new to this though, I am curious how you more experienced folks feel about this. Are feelings bound to be caught? Does it start to feel more “poly” after a while? Would prefer to avoid those things!
