What does long term over use look like?

I have read lots about how MDMA is neurotoxic and if you take too much and/or too often you'll permanent damage or down regulate everything to where it won't work or work well anymore. So, what does that look like? Just that you take ten points and don't feel much? Do you get obviously messed up to where you appear slightly mentally retarded?
