3 months rule?

alright so there's the 3 month rule which pretty sure is very save if you stick to it but i see many people say they recommend the 3 month rule but 1 month is also fine. is that true? i used to use atleast 3 times a month but do just once a month now and i'm wondering if i continue doing it just once a month, will i still loose the magic just like not that early on or is it just one of the it's different for everybody type of things? and does it matter if i re-dose or not?
