I know this subreddit never gets much use, but I'd like to bring some important issues into discussion concerning regenerating a new map due to all the new biome code being released in the recent patch and then more in the upcoming 1.2 patch.
For starters, the Minecraft 1.1 update brought over new biome code, allowing for more hills in biomes that normally didn't call for hills as well as bringing back Minecraft's beloved beaches. This update also "broke" our old map, relocating biomes where they shouldn't be and shifting others out of position. For instance, I chose this seed due to all the neat rivers and water passages through out the lands and with the 1.1 update, a large majority has been frozen over, making the rivers completely useless. I also believe that the mushroom biome was also removed, or downsized a lot. Not to even mention part of the ocean has frozen over.
Another issue that is noteworthy is that the new jungle biome that was introduced in the latest weekly snapshot [12w03a] will not magically appear in our map until we start a new one. He's written into the map files that these biomes won't spawn at all, even if we spawn new land around what we currently have which would create a bunch of harsh borders and lag the server even more.
So, I'm asking you, the mc.godsyn.com community, what we should do about this issue. Should we start a new map, and close this one off like Alpha and Beta? Should we hold strong on this map and see if the development slows down or stops altering biome code? Any other suggestions?
