If The Russos aren't returning, who would be their go to?
Gunn is too busy with DC.
Taika's style doesn't make sense for massive Avengers movies.
Peyton... I just don't see it. He really wanted F4 and Feige isn't letting him do that, I don't see him letting Peyton take on their biggest franchise, even though he's introducing Kang.
There's really only two real options I see...
Jon Watts. Had a very successful trilogy and his most recent movie is one of the best MCU movies made. However, when he backed out of F4 they immediately said he was coming back to Spider-Man. I'm guessing one of the unannounced Phase 6 projects will be the next Spider-Man movie, and if that's the case there's no way he'll have the time to develop, shoot and edit two MASSIVE Avengers movies.
Which leads me to my most likely Director...
Ryan Coogler. He's directed three movies, and all of them are pretty acclaimed. Black Panther pulled in over $1 Billion. Wakanda Forever's trailer looks INCREDIBLE. He doesn't have anything else lined up for now, so he'll have time.
A couple of my non MCU director wild card picks...
Zach Snyder. I think his visual style would be perfect for these movies. If they pair him with the right writers I think it could be interesting.
Chad Stahelski. Has done amzing work on John Wick. Was 2nd Unit Director for The Russos on Civil War.
Vince Gilligan. This one is SUPER random, but the man knows how to tell a compelling story and is free now that he's done with Better Call Saul.
A friend of mine said Noah Hawkley. A good storyteller who has worked in comic book storytelling.
Any other ideas?
This has been bugging me since I heard The Russo were out. Lol
