I guess this depends on a bunch of factors. I had first gotten into B schools when I was 26, but dropped out to start a company (founder/CEO). Have now raised $2M in capital for that company and employ 10 people, but as the team grows I realize that (a) I'm actually BAD at management and (b) the startup life, especially before product market fit, is probably not for me. And we're probably years away from true product market fit.
I would be 32 if I were to apply this coming year and start my MBA in 2020 (and since it's been such a long time since I last applied I'd have to retake the GMAT -- got a 730 the first time. This is not a big deal, just something to call out).
I think I want to end up as a GM or country/category manager for a large tech company, or join a startup just as it's hitting product market fit. I can probably get jobs like that now, but again, I think I'm actually BAD at management and want to take the time to actually explore and develop those skills. There's also something about the credentialing that would be nice from a lifetime earnings/job security perspective.
Other things to know -- won a big scholarship in college (think Truman/Marshall/Fulbright), did the scholarship, then did consulting (McKinsey/Bain/BCG), and went on to work for a large aid agency (think UN/World Bank) on technology innovation. That was when I got into Stanford/Harvard/Wharton (actually all of them), but I dropped out to start this company (for profit but social good oriented company.)
One of the other things weighing on me is recommendations. The last time I had a boss was 6 years ago, and given where the company is, I wouldn't want to alert my co-founders or investors that I might leave before Im more solid on what my options are/what I want to do.
Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks!
