Recruiting when there's a clawback

Post Body

Hey all, I'm halfway done with a professional/executive MBA program that my company is reimbursing me for. There's a 12 month clawback, so after I graduate I have to stay at my company for 12 months or pay the tuition back.

There is 1 particular internal role I'm eying for when I graduate, but if that doesn't work out I will definitely apply elsewhere.

Has anyone else wanted to apply externally before but had to deal with a clawback? How many months before the clawback period ended did you start applying?

Background: I'm currently in service delivery (watered down consultant) at an F500 financial services company with 5yoe and will be looking to move into management consulting/senior FA/Corp Strategy roles. Undergrad is finance.
