Post Body

Hi all,

Like the title says, after 11 apps and 6 acceptances, I've narrowed down my decision to two schools (ASU:WP Carey and Rochester Simon). Though I've received acceptance from some T15 and T20 schools, I'm kind of financially being forced to make the decision to attend the school with the best offer... Free plus money... W.P. Carey.

I haven't notified the other school yet, but I'm feeling really real FOMO every time I receive an email from Simon. They're really proactive with their pre-start emails, getting people pumped up for the course, and community - Accepted weekend, hosting virtual club events, sending pre-work, etc., but Carey doesn't seem to be or might do that later (I had an early R2 notification).

Context:

  • I haven't denied Rochester yet, I'm thinking to go to accepted weekend and at least reap the benefits of the event, enjoy, and make a list of the things (services, social events, types of people) I want to find at Carey.
  • Accepted weekend is before the decision response deadline
  • I spent a LOT of time networking and getting pumped for Rochester before admittance and not as much at ASU (working on that now).
  • Rochester gave me 70%, but I'd still be in the hole like, 88K (plus current debt), ASU is Full-Ride with 35K extra (Grad assistantship and 10k cash).
  • I currently have $109K in combined Undergrad and MA debt
  • I don't have enough savings to contribute to the Rochester cost so will be loans.
  • I get the same emails from the other schools (some T15 and T20) and don't care at all
  • I've visited Rochester for a weekend event, haven't been to Carey yet (will in 2 weeks)

I'm wondering:

  1. Should I just decline Rochester and end the FOMO (decline = no more emails, and no event)
  2. Should I attend the Rochester event for the reasons stated above

Would appreciate any feedback/pumping up.For reference, some FOMO triggers are:

  • Consortium (Simon) vs Forté (ASU) Prep engagement (fellowship at both schools)
  • Schedule of events includes a themed formal cocktail party, Consortium Prep, Great networking, and social events. No schedule sent yet for ASU.
  • I would go to Simon if I had no student loan debt :(
