Anyway to fix travel around map?

Travel around map is lagging to much. Even when armies are mostly only around 200 or less? It like game is lagging just to have your character walk a few steps. I do have a mod to strengthen NPC armies which does help make them bigger. Doing a new playthrough and game is so lagging. Yet the last game with the same mods had armies from 20,000 to 1000 and game travel was normal. It so random lagging. Did the new update screw everything up even if mods updated with it.
