MAME and FBA: What are the pros and cons?

I've been using MAMEUIFX (64 bit) for about 6 months and have most games I'd like to play set up just right with my arcade stick and it's pretty nice, but MAME seems so complex and fiddly, is FBA a good alternative? What is the philosophy of FBA vs MAME, and what does it do better or worse?
