Eastern prickly pear in the area?
Post Body
Has anybody seen a prickly pear cactus growing in the city? I'd like to get a plant for my backyard but I've never actually seen one surviving here with my own eyes. The eastern prickly pear, Opuntia humifusa, is native to Massachusetts and tolerant of cold much lower than the 7A/6B hardiness zone. I think my soil is sufficiently well-drained, I see a lot of Yucca filamentosa growing around here (even some volunteers in areas that aren't landscaped) but it would be nice to have positive confirmation that it's definitely possible before going out and getting a plant from a nursery.
