Was looking at a Saugus town government list of historic properties in Saugus (PDF warning for mobile) and my eyes were immediately drawn to a listing that said
102 Central St. ("Ghost Dog" House) status: demolished
I was immediately hungry for information on what makes this a Ghost Dog House. Was it haunted by a ghost of a dog? Was it a good dog ghost or an evil dog ghost? Or is it related to someone or something named Ghost Dog? It had to have some kind of story for a name like that to end up on the town record of historic properties—and I just need to know with that name.
I couldn't find much with google but I did find the Massachusetts Cultural Resource Information System listing for the house (click on the INV pdf button for the complete information) and while it's lovely that loads of information on the building is there to find out, there's nothing about why it's a "Ghost Dog house"! Drat.
Anybody know what the story is? Folk lore and stories about supernatural dogs are a really ancient thing and it would be cool as hell if there is a tale of a ghost dog in Saugus of all places.
