Update: After filing a complaint with the BBB, Lyft literally said they are obligated to verify any damage before charging me a damage fee and that all charges are non-refundable. This has become a nightmare where Lyft has literally said they don’t care that drivers are scamming. Good luck out there. Uber only for me.
So last night I met up with some friends at an EDM concert. The scene really wasn’t my vibe and I had to be at work at 8am. So I didn’t drink at all. Due to parking, I did use Lyft.
Upon leaving, I had an uneventful Lyft ride home in quiet while I messaged my friends on my phone.
As I get out of the shower before I bed, I noticed a $150 damage / mess charge. Something I had nothing to do with. And I don’t believe it was in the car prior to me because the smell of vomit makes me sick and I would’ve noticed.
I’ve reported this to Lyft and because the driver provided pictures that don’t prove anything other than at some point someone puked in his car. As I was riding by myself and I didn’t physically record the entire ride on my cell phone. I have no grounds for recourse in the eyes of Lyft. As of now they’ve reviewed the case 3 times and said they will not remove the charge.
Obviously, I will report this to my bank once the charge clears and hopefully that’s the last I will hear of this. However, I believe there’s a bigger issue here. First of all, it’s the scam in the first place. And second of all, if this driver is willing to scam me. Where does he draw the line on criminal activity? If hypothetically I was a female, it’s possible it could’ve been even more dangerous. The fact that Lyft doesn’t care is the most troubling part. Thoughts here?
I will never use Lyft again, I will take pictures exiting the vehicle and get the driver on camera to say that he inspected his car and it was clean upon me leaving when I ride with Uber.
Curious everyone’s thoughts on the subject or if anyone has encountered similar type scams. TIA!
