Vol pot question

Slowly but surely building/modding my first partscaster from a squire bullet.
I'm wanting to do a little rewriring and I'm wondering about volume pots.
Are they the same as tone pots? I get they are just variable resistors the same as tone pots, but would I use the same part as I choose fur replacement tone pots but wired differently or is it a totally other component?
