Soap/Shower Gel Question

So I bought a large chunk of Christmas party soap in the sales. This is the first time I’ve ever had a lush soap.

It smells amazing I am obsessed but I don’t think I have the most effective way of using it.

I have tried all sorts but ive never managed to get it to lather like the shower gels?

I’ve tried rubbing it in a loofah/flannel, putting it in one of those soap exfoliator bag things and also just holding it.

The best results I had were when I was just holding it but I keep dropping it

Do the soaps normally lather like the shower gels? Am I just using it wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)
