I want to run benchmarks on my MacBook Pro and need benchmarking software to do so.
I am the proud new (to me) owner of a MacBook Pro Late 2011 i5 2.5ghz. I am going to be upgrading it from its stock configuration (4gb / 500gb 5400 RPM mechanical), to a 500 GB SSD, 8GB RAM, and use the optical bay for a 1TB mechanical. Before I do that I would like to run some benchmarks to compare the stock config to the upgrades I put in.
I've currently partitioned the stock hard drive into three iterations of OS X: 10.7 Lion (which it shipped), 10.11 El Capitan, and 10.12 Sierra. I would like to run benchmarks on all three, to get a sense of performance using each and then make a decision as to which OS I want to land on, and that will become the one that gets installed to the SSD upgrade.
From my (one day) experience, so far El Capitan seems the most responsive, with Sierra not too far behind, and Lion being an absolute sluggish dog.
My use for the machine is not really intentioned to be a daily driver per se, but as a light production machine for creative projects using my old copy of Photoshop CS6 (and some Indesign CS6), and an older DAW (maybe Ableton).
Recommendation for good benchmarking software appreciated. And opinions on the best OS X for this machine are welcome.
Thanks!
