First off I'd like to specify that I was a young kid when I played LM1. I remember playing it in either 2002 or 2003, one or the other, and I was much more impressionable at that time than I am now (big smelly stinky boring adult).

But I have gone back to LM1 a few times over the years so I still do have recent memories of it. That being said, I'd like to make this as a discussion post just to hear what you guys are saying about it.

•Actually kinda creepy

With LM1, I feel like it genuinely had some horror moments DURING gameplay. Furthermore 3 is absolutely more of a comedy than a horror game, but I feel LM shines best when it embraces both sides of the coin. Mixing the two. ALSO with 3, ghosts are almost always introduced during cutscenes that otherwise completely break any scary bits or tension. Speaking of...

•Moody and dark

Not just with the actual light levels, but the general feel and execution of the world was so much more gothic and moody where-as even after the transition, the game feels too bright and happy.

•Mysterious

LM1 was also partially a mystery game. You needed to find out who took Mario and how to rescue him. In 3, this is given away in the intro segment...

•Difficult

LM1 had some seriously difficult moments. Now I have not beat the game yet, I'm nearly 20 years older, and I've been playing games this whole time, HOWEVER I haven't struggled even a single bit ONCE this entire time. This could change, and I hope it does.

•Less cutscenes

3 has...a LOT of cutscenes. Beautifully animated and choreographed, but excessive.

•Basic ghost visual variety

I feel like I see the same blue ghost WAY too much
