I just had my first ever lucid dream.
In general I don’t enjoy dreaming, it always makes me feel anxious even when the dream itself isn’t scary or negative.
I was reading about lucid dreaming every now and then over the past couple months just to pass the time, but not particularly interested in actively trying it. I did the finger counting check a handful of times over the past while, but I’m talking like 20 total times in like 2 months, definitely not enough to be a habit or come up in a dream.
Anyway, I had a long contorted dream as usual, and part of this dream was riding a roller coaster. After riding the roller coaster I felt super drunk, even more out of control than I usually feel in normal dreams, messy thoughts, trouble focusing, finding it really hard to do menial tasks, even walking, etc.
The dream continues with a whole load of other events I won’t bore you with, but basically a lot of work stuff happens and when I’m leaving a workspace, I struggle a lot to get down a weird ladder and break it. I spend some time trying to fix it when someone in the dream accuses me of pretending to break it, I ask if there are CCTV cams because then they’d see me really fall, and I started to justify this because of my “drunk feeling state” in that moment I realized as I was explaining to her, THAT’S why I hate dreams, because I always feel like this, that I can’t do regular things and focus. As I said it outloud I immediately thought “I’m in a dream!” so I looked down at my left hand and counted to 5. Normal. Tried again, normal. Pulled out my right hand and did it again. Five, normal.
Then I thought “well idc about the hand thing because I know it’s a dream anyway” so I immediately ran and did a short fly around the room.
I also remember having another short scene of watching these business men shake hands, kind of like stock footage (I’m a video editor), and I visually zoomed in on the hands to check they were normal (they were).
Then I guess I got distracted telling a couple people that I was in a dream and kind of “fell” back into the dream, ie forgetting I was lucid, and woke up shortly after.
If it matters, I slept and woke up at 6:30am as I usually do, I spent a couple hours on twitter because I was tired and don’t have to start working til 9, fell back asleep at like 8:30 and had this dream, and now I’m late lol.
FWIW, I also had been reading some twitter threads about ai getting hands all wonky recently, so I’m not sure if that’s also what I was “looking for” in weird hands. If you look up “ai hands” on google images you’ll know what I mean.
Anyway that’s my experience, I’ve read a lot of threads on here about people saying their weird hands seemed normal to them in the dream, but nobody mentioning having actual normal hands.
edit: added detail about artificial intelligence hands
