After about 35 days of trying, I finally got my first lucid dream! It was sort of what I was expecting it to be and not. Sorry for mobile formatting
I fell asleep last night at around 3:50 (I know, my sleep schedule is actually horrendous) and woke up at around 9:50 naturally. I went to the bathroom and took a vitamin b6 supplement and went back to bed. My room is noisy because of the old ceiling fan and also has a lot of light coming through the windows even with the curtains, so I had a sleeping mask on and ear plugs in. I did 5 cycles of SSILD and I caught myself having wandering thoughts like 10 times. After that it took around 15 minutes to fall back asleep.
I don't remember what caused me to realize I am dreaming but I do not remember having the sudden Eureka moment, I just knew at the start of the dream. I was in a car and it was very hard to control, but I knew I was lucid so I decided to park wherever. After that I think I tried stabilizing but everything went black. Then I woke up, everything was still black but I found that normal even though I didn't realize I had a sleep mask on in the dream until later. I (think?) I did a nose pinch reality check like I do whenever I wake up. And lo and behold it was a false awakening. I got up out of bed effortlessly and I went to my window but everything was black and I was confused. It was like looking at a dark, glitchy monitor because it has squares and stuff out of place, not just a solid black. Then I remember having a sleep mask on so I lift it up and still black. I did this ~10 times and still black just less dark everytime. Then I lifted it up like I was peeking out of it and I could see like normal. The first thing I did now that I could sort of control the dream was use the hand rubbing stabilize technique and I think I licked the wall too. Then I walked downstairs. I had to pee in the dream (when I woke up I didn't have to) so I went. Then when I went to the front door my mom wanted to take pictures with me and my friend so we went outside and did that. I remember sitting on the grass looking at the details of the grass and the flowers to gain stability. I wanted to try to fly but I knew I would wake up because of excitement so I decided to eat. There were cookies conveniently on the front porch and I had some and they weren't extraordinary but still tasted pretty good. Then the dream ended.
Now I know why people post the "did I have a lucid dream?" Post, because when I woke up, I remember doing all these things I would do if I had a lucid dream but felt like I didn't really have much control. I don't remember me really thinking much about me being lucid. You don't have to say it, I know I was lucid but I just didn't have a lot of control, that and my dream recall isn't the best made it feel like it wasn't a lucid dream. Still a victory in my book!
