When I connected my Earphones the sound goes off till I reboot

I have a problem ever since I installed Lubuntu (1 day ago). Whenever I try to plugin a normal earphone into the 3.55mm jack of my old zen laptop (Leapbook), the sound just goes off permanently till I restart my laptop.
I opened the volume control and I can already see the headphones recognized and there is volume meter going up as I open videos on youtube, but there is no actual output in my earphones.
I would appreciate any help because I don't want to keep using my laptop speakers.
