Someone over on r/Boston suggested I post here...
So basically I can speak a fair amount of Standard Chinese - for a white dude - and I normally talk with my boyfriend in English BUT his native dialect is Teochew.
The relationship has been tense lately because of a multitude of issues so next time I see him I kind of want to surprise him by speaking his native tongue...I've asked him to teach me before but he said it would be "weird", but I am weird so I kinda just wanna learn at least a few words. Maybe some self-deprecating humor? I do a lot of that on the day to day anyways lol
This is definitely but maybe I'll be proven wrong...there really are next to no free resources online for learning the dialect either.
