Maybe a weird opinion, but I actually have been really enjoying that the new enemy railcannon objectives from the current major order are impervious to stratagems and require you to get in close with a Hellbomb to take them out.
These new objectives are pretty much just a stronger version of the dropship or bunker objectives - get to a location and blow up what's there. I've been disappointed with how trivial these missions become with experienced players though, since there's a variety of stratagems that can clear these out more or less instantly without needing to put yourself in danger. Playing on the bot front can get tedious for me when the natural crescendo of getting to a fortified base gets squashed by a single good stratagem toss. I feel like a lot of fun has been put back into the game just because you actually need to get up close to these new railcannons to take them out with a Hellbomb. Climbing up a winding path on a hill and taking out turret emplacements and fabricators along the way before finishing off with a huge explosion really is just the pure cinematic shooter fun that got me so into HD2.
I think it's funny I feel this way considering that the community tends to really dislike the only other bot building that needs a Hellbomb to break, the gunship fabricators. I think the fact that the railcannons lack a passive nerf to your squad that a lot of other bot structures come with helps avoid a lot of frustration. It's a lot more fun to tackle a big obstacle at full strength instead of a relatively smaller one while having a part of your kit disabled. I think that if Arrowhead can sort out some balance issues with gunships, I'll end up feeling the same way about fighting them.
These stronger objectives also encourage a lot more loadout variety. Suddenly more defensive stratagems like EMS, smoke, the tesla tower, or the shield generator become more viable when you're forced to engage with the enemy in a tight space. At least, the clear best option isn't just bringing the biggest explosions you can. (Much to the dismay of squad mates I've seen load into these missions with only heavy ordinance stratagems that turn out to be ineffective.)
Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts and hear other people's reactions to the new objective. Really happy that Arrowhead keeps adding things to the game to try and keep it fresh and looking forward to their big update next week.
