Why did they let Chelsea see Jimmy first?

after Jimmy saw Jessica and he broke it off. Why did they (production) have it to where Jimmy saw Chelsea first instead of giving Trevor the first benefit of the doubt. I feel like Jimmy shouldn’t have got to see both of them first.
