I haven't seen this topic being thoroughly discussed anywhere yet, so let's start this conversation now!
As we all know, with each progression of the game, like a new Love Interest, Main Story Chapter or Event, we are expected to have lot of free space in our devices, ready for when we are going to downloading the update.
And there have been more than 1 major updates that took place:
When the game was first released, Love and Deepspace's initial storage requirement was approximately 3.9 GB, and that was only for the app itself. The supplemental data download was around 3.5 GB, bringing this to a total of 7.4 GB. (The information was based on user reports and community discussions).
Then we've got the update "Version 2.0: Opposing Visions" (Released on July 15, 2024) when we were introduced to Sylus and his story branch. Based off Love and Deepspace's official news channels, the update was around 3.4 GB up to 3.7 GB (depending on your phone's operating system). However, you we expected to have around 15 GB of free storage for a smooth installation, and for the game to launch and work.
And now we've got the latest updates "Version 3.0: Cosmic Encounter" (Released on December 31, 2024) and "Version 3.0.3" (When Home calls, Welcome back Caleb) update (Released on January 22, 2025). The last update holds special signifficance, as it not only introduces more content to the Main Story, but also added new features, a new Love Interest (Caleb) AND a new event (New Year's at Linkon), all at once.
And although I wasn't able to find any information about the true size of this update on LaD's official page, we can assume that it was around the same size, or maybe even a bit bigger, than the "Version 3.0" update. The update that took place in December was about 3.5 GB for Android and 3.6 GB for iOS in size. And again, you would still need at least 15 GB of free storage to ensure a possible download.
Even if we exclude all of the dowloaded media within the game (This includes all of the Main Story chapters and all of the media we get from the cards in Bond, Memoria, Myths, Tender Moments, Secret Times and Events.) we are still left with one pretty big app that is, at the very least, around 15 GB or even more.
Of course it is to be expected from a game with such high, visual quality that features such well rendered 3D models! There are not many games that can be compared to Love and Deepspace. Even I can't think of any that could compete with LaD when it comes down to games of the same genre.
But even so, I couldn't fail but notice the rising worry within the LaD fandom and these who play it on the phone. The fact that some might and won't be able to install the newer update (or the future ones) and would have to delete the game. I've seen players in desperate attempt to make enough space on their phones delete photos, apps, and even resorting to deleting their social media apps. This practice isn't new to the mobile game community. However, this wouldn't have been unusuall, IF there weren't players saying that they still haven't gotten enough space. Even after cleaning, practically, their entire phone!!! For some, this problem still proceeds even when they delete and re-install the game.
And for these who succeed in dowloading the update they would mostly likely be met with the following problems (the information below is based on my observations):
phone problems:
- device overheating
- battery exponetially being drained out
- if the storage is almost full, this could hinder the function of other apps
- and more
Once i've deleted the app from phone the first 2 problems still preceed
in-game problems/obstacles:
- you are recommended to play at lowest quality rendering
- you won't have the smoothest in-game experience (3D models, main chapter stories lagging and 5* Cards lagging etc.)
- and more
It shows that Love And Deepspace isn't made for Entry-Level model phones: 64 GB or less. You either need to have super phone, with either 128 GB or more. Or better buy your self a tablet.
It's important to add that there is an option that allows you to play the game on Laptop/PC. That is, by using an Emulator like Mumu12 or BlueStacks. For those who don't know what an Emulator is: It's like an environment that mimics the functionality of another operating system or device (like Android). Inside this simulated environment, Android apps, like Love and Deepspace, think they are running on a standalone Android device. It kinda acts like independent device but it's dependent on your computer's storage and its other components to function.
However, we need to consider that the Emulator might not work for every player. For this simulated environment to start it would first ask you to "Turn on the Virtualization Mode/VT" . (This option allows your Windows or macOS or Linux computer to simulate that different computer system within itself.)
I myself play LaD on the Emulator Mumu12 and I was able to turn this option on just fine. But I've had an experience where I've suggested somebody to do the same on their own laptop and their screen was then stuck at black. It only went back to normal once we Disabled this option. So, for everyone out there who trying to turn this option on, BE CAREFUL!
As this app grows, our storages shrink. Sooner or later your phone won't be able to handle Love and Deepspace- That's why we should start nudging Infold NOW to do something about that. The best option is for them to create a desktop version of LaD.
In conclusion, our poor, little phones can't handle our hot, 3D men :( .
Thank you all for coming to my Ted Talk!
They released a PC version of Infinity Nikki for launch which has my delusions up for a lads one
