Hey all. I want to attempt my first real Lotus Dry. Tbh I did "try" it last grow, however I totally screwed it up because I was really paranoid of humidity. I was throwing tons of moisture control packs in there, opening fridge multiple times a day to air out the humidity, taking trays of buds out for 10 minutes at a time to air them out. As you expect, my buds ended up really brittle, ugly, terps were weak, and I'm pretty sure a lot of trichomes fell off from me shuffling them around at a low temperature. At that point, I don't want to disrespect y'all by even referring to it as a "Lotus Dry"..
You will all probably facepalm and laugh at me after reading that, but I didn't know about this sub and had a hard time finding techniques for Lotus Drying in fridges that matched my conditions.
That all being said, I want to try again this harvest and do it the right way. I have been reading through posts and comments and have a few questions I want to confirm before I screw my dry phase again.
I attached pics of the wine fridge I own, and my grow a few weeks ago (lights are out rn - but they are ripe). This is a 3x3 tent filled with 3 trained plants. Based on my first 2 harvests, I think the dry weight may be ~10oz.
About the wine fridge:
It is frost-free,
thermoelectric,
fits 8 wine bottles.
I have a small mason jar with a couple colas in there now, and the humidity seems to get exchanged out the back to a 52-60%RH range. The surrounding environment is ranging from 58-61%RH.
I also have a small usb fan in the fridge. The cable is thin and the fridge seals even when it's closed on the cable. Yay.
Based on the amount of weight I'm looking at, is this fridge too small?
I've read many other people's techniques here. It seems like a consensus that if we are setting the fridge to 48F and below, we don't need to worry about mold forming because of high humidity. Is this true? I fear by packing in so much bud in a small space that this won't work like other growers' techniques.
Any advice about how I should go about the process would be appreciated. I popped these seeds the first week of this year, so I've literally had these girls for 6 months and would HATE if I dried them badly and even worse if they are molded and unusable. But life happens and it happens to us all. I've been lucky to not have lost a substantial amount to mold in my GRAND TOTAL of 3 harvests lol.
Thanks in advance, and I'm looking forward to contributing to this sub once I get my bearings with Lotus Drying.
