Yeah, I know the founder of American Apparel is not a popular guy, and people said the store encouraged body issues with women. But here's the thing:
I'm a very lean guy. It was the only T in my entire life that fit me exactly right. It was cheap, easy, and basic-- the same qualities that men like in me. But it hugged me in the right places.
Every other T-shirt in America was meant for big guys, and the cut/style just gets scaled it down for a small size. That fits about as well as a grocery bag.
The day American Apparel went bankrupt and had a 50% off sale, I ran down and filled a bag with stuff. Since then, every time I needed a new T, I just reached into that bag.
The bag is empty. When my current collection of basic Ts runs out, that's the end of a 15-year love affair with AA t-shirts.
I know AA exists in name. But that's not really them. The rights to the name were sold to the company that makes gold-toe socks. I haven't tried their clothes. And the guy who founded AA went on to do L.A. Apparel, but they gave him the boot too.
I had a look at the L.A. Apparel site. Their Ts look like crap. Same grocery bag fit as Target.
I'm basically built like a typical Asian guy-- 5'10" and 140 pounds. 28-inch waist. Where do lean guys to go get shirts with the right fit?
