Just finished the anime, saw it got released like 2 days ago and got super hyped cuz lookism is one of my favourite webtoons, but I can't say that it lived up to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are beautiful, music that was used is dope, opening is almost magical, and all together as an anime, it's good, but I don't believe it reflected the webtoon as it should have.
The names was a big confusion, and I still don't remember what's the name of the girl Zack has a crush on(yes, his name is Zack in the webtoon), but I somehow got to understand who is who. The characters were drawn beautifully and on point for the most part, until Zack's crush came to play. She's well done, but it's not the same girl as the original series, so that got me a bit confused at first.
The story was honestly well transisted, but I think it got a bit too vanilla in comparison to the original. The bullying that Duke(or Dowkwa or smth idk) and Daniel(our protagonist, or Hyunsaka? Smth like that) had to go through was more intense than it was shown in the anime, but I guess it is because of shit like "oh its too violent, you can't show such thing on Netflix" while we got nudity all over the place on other series. Anyway! Another thing that didn't sit good with me is that some parts of the story was extended beyond reason(like the fight between Daniel and Vasco the Tabasco), I don't even remember it to be honest. Or how little the two bodies theme was on the show in comparison with the original. They could have kept some stuff a lot shorter (like the songs... Since when is this a musical?) and have put up to the talent training arc, so that if there will be a second season, they would start with the good stuff.
Last but not least, the people that liked the anime, I get you, but to think that it was better than the original?? I saw some posts like "the comic is like it's a fake thing wearing the anime's skin". I wanna hold your hand guys and ask if you're OK. Like, did you even read the webtoon? I know the artstyle at the time wasn't that good, but it was perfekt to portrait the things that lookism wanted to bring to light. Oh and the people saying that lookism is embracing looks and downgrades personality, please, just don't talk? It's obvious you guys didn't even bother to watch or read Lookism. It's literally the progression of understanding the exact opposite, how someone not good looking can have a good life, even with idiots around, and that's way clearer in the chapters following the anime. Anyway, that's my opinion, hope this won't get taken down cuz some kids got butthurt and reported it.
