Getting rid of carpet

Hi all! We are removing about 1200 sqf of carpet in our house, and I was wondering if any of you ever used the private companies that come and pick it up for you. Do you remember how much it cost you? I also saw the free landfill day but I doubt we'll fit everything even in a couple cars.
Would you have any other advice for me? Thanks!
