Hi! This is for my LDR folks who work for the man. This is probably more an issue in the US, where grind culture is pervasive, and vacations that are a week-plus (especially more than once per year) are technically allowed... but also frowned upon :(
How do y'all ask for time off to go see your SO? Do you just say it's for vacation? Do you get the feeling that people judge you for taking so many vacations? "Going to visit my long-distance boyfriend" feels like it would open up too many questions and I'm not here for it. Last time I totally lied and said it was a wedding for my cousin. But I felt icky about it, so I'm trying to see how others navigate this issue with their employers.
I should add that this is probably also more relevant for LDRs that are reeeaaaalllly long distance... like a weekend away is not possible. (I live in Hawaii, where the only place that's a weekend away is another island. He lives in Europe, and due to visa issues cannot enter the US. So the closest place (to me) that we could meet up would be Mexico... a 10-hour flight away for me, 30 hours travel for him)
