How do I make this work?

My boyfriend of nearly a year has just moved country for work and he'll be gone for the best part of the year. I have just found out that for various reasons he cannot come home, and due to how broke I am I can't afford to visit him either. I know people have gone for longer times without seeing each other, but its hard to go from living together to dodgy skype connections and missed messages on facebook. Does anyone have any advice or support or... something?
