Does anyone find the tap tempo functionality in Logic Pro inaccurate?

I'm wondering if it's how I'm using it, or maybe trying to understand a bit better how it works, but it seem highly inaccurate.

If I tap the same beat, the result will vary widely, especially the longer you leave it. Even if you just do it initially with 4 beats, I'm getting results from 90bpm to 130bpm.

How I'm using it is that I'm holding down the shift key, and then tapping with the 0 key.

Whereas when I use my phone app it seems to consistently work. But it's annoying having to use two different interfaces.

Does anyone have any tips/ideas or even alternatives?
