High temp lock gutting
Post Body

I thought I would share these here just because they are fun and lock related. First, a buddy had a S&G 831B with no keys. He can pick it fine, and the core turns. He picked it both CW (operating) and CCW (control) but the shackle would not budge. We decided that putting it in my furnace would melt all the brass to get the core out of the way and allow the actuator to me moved and allow us to see what was going on inside. The videos below show the process:

Video 1: The lock is heated to around 2100-2200 degrees, easily melting all the brass. Lock is disassembled and cleaned up.

Video 2: The lock has a temp core put in to make sure it is in working order.

There are many ways to gut a lock, but this may be the most fun and entertaining to date. :)

Thanks! Ith
